Nomination for INTERTELECOM 2011 trade fair award
The complete set of TERRA modules for transmitting television signals in optical networks has been nominated for the award of the 22nd International Fair of Electronic Communication in Lodz, Poland - INTERTELECOM 2011.

The jury of the competition consists of scientists from the University of Lodz. The set of TERRA equipment for transmitting and distributing television signals in fiber optic networks has met the required criteria and qualified for the final stage of the competition.

The set of TERRA equipment for transmitting television signals in fiber optic networks is suitable both for extended networks (up to 60 km) and modern local solutions (e.g. at stadiums).
The possible configurations include forward signal transmission, and applications with return channel. TERRA company manufactures a complete range of active devices (headend, multiswitches), which ensures fully integrated solutions.
In accordance with the tendency observed in many countries, there is a market demand for a universal solution that can distribute both satellite and cable TV signals in FTTH networks. Such a solution is supported by the presented equipment. An important feature is the quality of the systems - the manufacturer provides 5-year warranty on laser modules.
The benefits of using a set of TERRA equipment:
  • Possibility of building both extended networks (up to 60 km) and local solutions (e.g. at stadiums)
  • Forward or two-way transmission (with return channel)
  • Universal solution suitable for distributing both satellite and cable TV signals
  • 5-year warranty on laser modules
The range of the components:
  • transmitters
  • receivers
  • receivers with return channel
  • accessories
Optical transmitter TERRA MOS-211A
Dual return path optical receiver TERRA ROS-121M
Optical Node TERRA OD-200P
Example applications
Stadiums and entertainment venues
Stadiums and entertainment venues require excellent infrastructure for the transmission of television signals. This applies to both the uplink and downlink connections, mainly realized by means of satellites. Such places are increasingly being used to organize events based on direct broadcasts of sporting and artistic events, watched by large audiences.
The professional optical transmitter TERRA MOS-211A R81720 converts electrical input signals into modulated light suitable for transmission over single-mode optical fiber (1310 nm wavelength). Optical fibers carrying optical signals in this window suppress them about 0.4 dB per kilometer. The optical power of the transmitter is 6 dBm, which - with the receiver sensitivity within 2 ... -7 dBm range and some reserve associated with the use of passive components in the system, and a little loss of laser power after a few years - means the possibility of sending the signals over distances up to 30 km. There are available models of the transmitters with higher output power, as well.

SMATV and cable TV systems
SMATV and cable TV systems with range up to 30 km- fiber optic networks. The distribution of television signals in systems based on coaxial cables is limited to a circle with the radius of approximately 500 m, due to the relatively high attenuation of the cables. For larger systems and/or dispersed locations, the investors should adopt solutions based on fiber optic cables.
A reliable platform is the complete solution developed by TERRA company. The signal from MMH-3000 R81700 headend is delivered via coaxial cable to the input of the optical transmitter MOS-121B R81720B. It is converted to optical form and transmitted via a single-mode fiber operating in the 1310 nm window. The optical signal can be divided by an optical splitter into several branches.
The device that receives the optical signal at the end of the link and converts it back to electrical form is the optical node R81726. The RF output signal can be split into many subnetworks. According to the manufacturer, one subnetwork can distribute the signal to up to 1000 subscribers.
The expansion of distribution networks based on fiber optics provides modern and cost-effective (the cost of optical cables is nowadays similar to that of high quality coaxial cables) framework for electronic media transmission. In relation to coax networks, optical systems require less maintenance, are completely resistant to interference and allow for connection to modern urban telecommunications infrastructure.

Television, Internet, telephony
Television, Internet, telephony - fiber optic transmission with return channel. An important requirement for modern cable TV networks is the ability to launch Internet access services and telephony. Such a possibility is provided by Terra equipment.
Terra optical transmitters MOS-211A R81720 and MOS-211B R81720B change electrical signals into optical rays transmitted via fiber optic cables. Optical node OD-200 R81723 or OD-200P R81722 receives the optical information and converts it back into electrical form.
