Antennas in Spain

Antennas in Spain. Spain is especially interesting country for those who are interested in antenna constructions. Large, covered with mountains country requires efficient transmission and receiving systems. A typical view is combination of various and interesting antennas of Spanish manufacturers - they are world-class leaders - mounted on high masts (often 2-3 times higher than the building itself). Due to warm climate most of buildings do not have solid chimneys, they are only equipped with comparatively more fragile ventilation chimneys, hence the additional difficulty for installers. To solve this problem, special concrete mast footings are made, especially for bigger constructions.
Complicated installations are being built also in big city centers, like here in Madrid, at Puerta del Sol square - recognized as the central point of Spain.
Residents of apartments hidden by the Royal Palace in Madrid have to use masts 2-3 times higher than their buildings - it is quite popular view in Spain.
On the left - the most popular antenna on Spanish roofs; the "stronger" version on the right,
and other various, interesting antennas can be found on Spanish roofs.
For the reason of lack of chimneys, the installers do their job by hook or by crook, mounting the antenna (rather risky venture) to an electricity pole, or with bigger expenditure - making concrete footing for the mast.
There is a great freedom in leading cables; generally, they are led simply on elevations, even in the case of old and historic buildings. However, it has an advantage that during a repair or exchange of the installation, the old walls won't be damaged from the inside. Besides that, climate conditions don't damage such a temporary installation.
Not everywhere one can spot swimming pool on the roof, like here in Cordoba.
It is "Troglodyte village" near Granada, in hot Andalusia. The inhabitants hollow out caves in soft rock instead of building traditional houses. Quite nice and fresh apartments, not requiring air-conditioning. If we watch carefully, we will see a television antenna (on the picture - close to ventilation chimney) - one of the indispensable elements of equipment of a modern troglodyte!
High buildings are the most wanted - it is possible to put many antennas on them, however it will be difficult to add anything on that building in Seville.
Many wonderful architects designed for Barcelona. It's hard to outrun - in the field of fantasy - the designer of Sagrada Familia church - Gaudy. However, Santiago Calatrava, the designer of Montjuic Communications Tower - steel communication tower with the height equal 136m built for Telefonica - also raised standards for modern architects.
Torre de Collserola in Barcelona - television tower with the height of 288m is another project designed by world-famous specialist in high constructions - sir Norman Foster.
Spain, similarly to Poland, is also the country with immense number of storks and with similar respect for them. The construction of a building in Toledo was stopped when storks built their nest on the building crane. Are these "modern" storks, which have also built their nests on humongous antenna tower in Madrid surroundings - forerunners of new generation of "virtual children" ?
As the photographer doesn't keep level - the antenna doesn't have to keep upright position ;-) ... Telecommunications antenna on a modern office block in Barcelona.
Although we can't find any connection between antennas and this picture from Spain, we have put it anyway...

Alhambra, the residence of Grenadian rulers, was built in XIV century. Arabs wished to create here a heaven on earth. Nowadays, security of one of the most famous European monuments is guarded by Philips cameras.
